The Mitchell Institute

Background

The Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy, Victoria University is an independent research and policy think tank that aims to make a positive difference to the quality of health and education policy and ultimately, the social and economic prosperity of Australia. The Mitchell Institute works towards realistic, pragmatic solutions that are evidence-based and designed for implementation.

The Institute invests in research and analysis that deepens understanding of Australia's most challenging health and education issues with a focus on addressing social, economic and cultural disadvantage

To achieve these aims the Mitchell Institute was created to:

  • Pursue policy research that produces compelling evidence and identifies solutions that can be realistically and sustainably implemented;
  • Acknowledge contemporary work in health and education and will collaborate to delve deeper into complex issues and real-world policy solutions;
  • Measure the impact of health and education policy on socially and economically disadvantaged communities with a view to influencing reform and bringing about substantial reform;
  • Work to bring new understanding to policy challenges and question assumptions by building up a strong evidence base for change.
