Project Output

Outputs from Sport and Recreation Spatial can be generated in two ways: by end users, utilising the GIS on this website, and by the Sport and Recreation Spatial research team conducting sector-wide analysis. Current and planned outputs include the following.

Participation levels and trends

Overall levels and trends, or broken down by combinations of:

  • Characteristics of participation (age, gender)
  • Specific sport or recreation activity
  • Aspect of participation (context, frequency)
  • Location (Postcode, LGA, Statistical Area 4, State, club-catchment)

Influences on participation*

  • Characteristics of participation (martial status, education, disability, participation aspirations, perceived barriers)
  • Characteristics of household (family structure, languages spoken)
  • Characteristics of location (LGA, region, remoteness, socio-economic status)
  • Characteristics of schools

Value of sport: the health benefits of participation*

  • Contribution of sport to total levels of health enhancing recreation physical activity
  • Associations between participation in sport and physical health outcomes
  • Associations between participation in sport and psychological and social health outcomes

Places to play: the nexus between facilities and participation*

  • Associations between participation, population and facilities (community and school)
  • Projected future need for facilities based on population changes
